Here are some features of Android 7.1. Find out if your smartphone is among those that can use Google's latest OS.
New Android devices came out this year, followed by a new Operating System. Google released the Android Nougat 7.1, a promising OS for new and upgrading devices, and a lot of techies and consumers want to know what it offers.

LG V20 became the first OEM to come out of the box with a Nougat OS. And a couple of weeks ago, Google released the much-awaited Pixel smartphones that already have an updated 7.1 Nougat. If you were among the thousands to purchas the phone, you might have noticed some changes and features of the OS.

The first thing you might have noticed is the circular app icons compared with the square-like icons of Marshmallow.

App Shortcuts
This is the most obvious user-facing feature of Android 7.1. As of the moment, first-party Google apps are the only ones to support them. The shortcuts are accessible from both the launcher and app drawer. They can be dragged out as individual homescreen icons for much quicker access but they cannot be reordered.

Image keyboard
It appears that this is limited to the Messenger app. The Google keyboard cannot place GIF images on other apps, including Gmail. But if you downloaded the developer preview on Nexus 6P and 5X or Pixel C, you can try to bring it up by going to messenger app. Then bring up keyboard and then tap on the smiley icon and you should see the new GIF option. As per Android Authority, Google silently added the GIF support just on developers preview.

Night Light
This feature eliminates the blue light emitted by a smartphone's display at night to lessen any possible damage to the retina. And studies show that exposure to blue light before bedtime actually suppresses melatonin,  delaying REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep significantly.
